At BLD Editing, I pride myself on providing quality services for my clients, including a free sample of your opening chapter or prologue. I also offer packages, allowing you to invest in a combination of services at a discounted rate. As each service requires a different focus area, each edit is carried out individually (i.e. one round of edits per type of editing).

Each type of editing plays an important role in how your manuscript comes together. From the capital letters to the overlapping lives of your characters, each editing service hones in on particular elements to fine-tune your world ahead of your publication journey.

The genres I work with most are thriller, fantasy, sci-fi, adventure and fiction. However, if you'd like to discuss a story of a different genre, please reach out. I love a great book.

Developmental Editing

At the heart of your story is its core, the essence of what makes your book special and unique. A developmental edit allows me to explore and help you fine-tune the big picture.

An editorial letter is provided at handover, covering all the points marked during the edit and diving into feedback on the strengths and weaknesses of your manuscript in greater detail, as well as a visual story map.

Copy & Line Editing

The technical flow of a book has a distinct impact on how easily your readers can absorb themselves in the story. This is where I dive into your manuscript at the sentence level.

A style sheet is provided at handover. This sheet covers the base framework, author preferences, characters, creatures, buildings, events, the most common adjustments, quote highlights and a guide to your chosen English dialect.

Proofreading
The final step after manuscript editing is proofreading. This is typically carried out on a formatted PDF. In this service, I work to catch wayward full stops, commas, capital letters or unnecessary words.

Once these final adjustments are made, your manuscript is polished!

Manuscript Evaluation
Struggling to know if your manuscript is on the right track? Trying to clearly differentiate between the magic and the mayhem? A manuscript evaluation is a great way to get a professional to look at the early stages of your story with a critical yet supportive approach, recognising what doesn’t quite fit and uncovering the jewels that make it special.
Considering characters, narrative structure, pacing and world-building, I make detailed notes. After the evaluation read, I provide a report on how you can best improve your book moving forward.
The advice given is more general than that of a full editing service, with the goal here being to solidify the world concept and build your confidence as a writer.
